| Warnings | Use caution with known heart arrhythmias, angina, prior heart attack or chest pain. May cause potentially fatal arrhythmia. Azithromycin is principally eliminated via the liver. Use caution with impaired hepatic function. |
| Contraindications | Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin or any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic. |
| Pediatric use | Zmax has been used in patients over 6 months of age. |
| Pregnancy | A retrospective study found association with increased incidence of miscarriage.2 Exposure during 1st trimester associated with increased risk of abortion and birth defects. |
| Zmax is also supplied in bottles containing 2.0 g of azithromycin and is constituted with 60 mL of water by the pharmacist. |
