Caution | Alcohol and other CNS depressants may cause additive CNS depression. A small number of patients (1-10%)? are "ultra fast metabolizers" subject to dangerous respiratory depression so use caution on initiation of treatment. |

Contraindications | Hypersensitivity to tramadol. Patients with significant respiratory depression, severe bronchial asthma, gastrointestinal obstruction, using of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or use within the previous 14 days. |

Pediatric use | Contraindicated under age 12 and for postoperative use for children under 18. | |
Pregnancy | Embryotoxic and fetotoxic in rats at doses comparable to maximum human dosage. | |
Schedule IV. Pain relief usually occurs within an hour with immediate-release formulation. |
