Class alpha agonist
Action Reduces aqueous production and increases uveoscleral outflow.
Usage Indicated for short-term adjunctive therapy in patients on maximally tolerated
medical therapy who require additional IOP reduction.

Tachyphylaxis is common, so short-term use is recommended.
Contraindications Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor usage, severe cardiovascular disease, low
blood pressure, or bradycardia. Hypersensitivity to apraclonidine, clonidine, or
components.

Pediatric use Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Pregnancy Category C. Maternal toxicity in pregnant rats at 0.3 mg/kg/day (15 times the
maximum recommended human dose).

Side-effects may include eyelid retraction, mydriasis, conjunctival blanching, dry
